# Food Focus — full product fact sheet Updated: 2026-07-20 Food Focus is a mobile calorie and nutrition tracker developed by Yurii Borys. It is available on iOS and Android. The product reduces food-logging friction while keeping AI-generated assumptions editable. ## Logging and correction Users can log a meal from a camera photo, an existing gallery image, a packaged-food barcode, natural-language voice, or typed text. Photo, gallery, voice, and text analyses are estimates. In the standard in-app review, a user can rename or remove ingredients and change ingredient or total-meal grams. Gram changes proportionally scale the current calories and tracked nutrients; they do not perform a new nutrient lookup. A user can also clear the result and analyze again with better context. After a meal is saved, Edit with AI can accept a typed instruction, a recorded instruction, or both. It sends the current meal and instruction for a complete replacement and writes the returned meal directly. The current flow has no separate preview, visible version history, or dedicated undo action, so the meal should be inspected afterward. Edit with AI is a meal-specific correction workflow. Siri logging is a separate path that can analyze and save a meal in the background without the normal pre-save review screen. ## Food Memory Food Memory is enabled by default on each device. Its toggle is stored locally, not synced account-wide; turning it off stops memory use and updates from that device without deleting account entries. In the normal single-meal save flow, Food Memory stores one current gram hint for each recognized, normalized ingredient. If a later photo, voice, or text analysis recognizes that ingredient without a clear amount, the saved value may be supplied as personal context. The normal rule is replacement, not averaging or frequency weighting, while a manual edit can set the current hint. Users can rename an entry, change its grams, delete one entry, or clear the list. The account store keeps up to 200 recently updated entries. Siri can update memory without normal pre-save review, and a multi-meal paste can sum duplicate normalized ingredients, so those paths need extra review. ## Nutrition outputs Saved meals can contain calories, protein, fat, carbohydrates, fiber, added sugar, and saturated fat. Photo, gallery, voice, and text analyses can also receive an AI-estimated 0–100 Health Index. This score is a heuristic, not a validated clinical measurement. A barcode entry currently starts with a default Health Index of zero rather than receiving the same AI meal-quality assessment. The Health Index trend can include barcode default-zero entries in its chart calculation, so a dip caused by barcode meals is not an AI judgment of meal quality. After at least 10 meals have been logged overall, the Nutrients view can analyze food names from the latest 7 days and infer several nutrients that may deserve attention. It does not quantitatively measure full micronutrient intake, identify a medical deficiency, or replace laboratory testing. ## Personalization and progress Users can set goals, diet preferences, activity level, weight-loss pace, and nutrition targets. Target generation is deterministic, not AI-generated. For adult profiles without Apple Health, Food Focus uses Mifflin–St Jeor estimated resting energy, then adds a fixed activity allowance of 200, 400, 600, 800, or 1,000 kcal according to the selected level. Goal adjustments are −250, −500, or −750 kcal for the selected weight-loss pace, +300 for gain muscle, +200 for increase strength, +150 for improve endurance, and zero for the other goals. Food Focus calculation floors are 1,200 kcal for female profiles and 1,500 for male profiles; these are product rules, not universal medical thresholds. Current weight affects calories, while the average of current and target weight contributes to protein and fat calculations. Users can edit the resulting targets. When Apple Health is enabled on iPhone, the base calculation omits the profile activity allowance. It can use available Health resting energy when the rolling value is at least 1,000 kcal and otherwise falls back to Mifflin–St Jeor. Imported active energy is added one-for-one to today's displayed calorie target. Optional Pro calorie carryover is off by default, requires at least 10 logged meals, checks only yesterday, and subtracts yesterday's overage up to 40% of the base target. The effective daily formula is base target + active calories − carryover. These inputs and wearable values remain estimates rather than a direction to consume an exact amount. Food Focus automatically generates a short home recommendation from available profile and goal data, calculated targets, the current day's logged foods and nutrition gaps, meal times, available activity, calorie carryover, the selected personality, and up to three recent recommendation texts. Eligible Pro users can open a detailed review with three sections: what went well, what to improve, and one tip. Users can choose seven response personalities, and recent recommendation context helps reduce repetition. Progress views include 7, 30, and 90-day calories versus target, macro balance, key nutrient averages, calorie split by meal type, top foods, and consistency. ## Platform differences Core logging and tracking work on iOS and Android. Apple Health active-calorie adjustment, Siri meal logging, and Daily Progress / Quick Log widgets are currently limited to iPhone. Food Focus exposes five English Siri App Shortcuts: general food logging plus breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. Siri uses the existing account to analyze and save in the background, returns a saved name and estimated calories, counts toward the first 10 meal logs before Pro, and has no pre-save review screen. Quick Log widgets deep-link into selected meal, camera, or barcode flows but do not save inside the widget. Daily Progress widgets show synchronized calorie, macro, meal, activity, and streak snapshots in supported Home Screen and Lock Screen families. The current repository has no Apple Watch app or complication. ## Data sources and limits Packaged-food barcodes query Open Food Facts first and can fall back to USDA FoodData Central. If a product record is missing one of Food Focus's tracked nutrient fields, the app may AI-estimate only the missing fields per 100 g before saving. A new scan starts at 100 g or at the last gram amount stored locally on that device for the exact barcode. The current barcode flow is grams-only; it does not offer separate serving, pieces, milliliter, or package-fraction selectors. Other meal analysis uses AI estimation.
