When enabled, the normal single-meal save flow keeps a current gram value for each ingredient it recognizes and normalizes. A later ambiguous photo, text, or voice log may use that value as context.

What is saved

One current gram value for each normalized ingredient

When enabled, Food Memory normally updates after a meal is saved. It works at the ingredient level and caps each account at the 200 most recently updated entries.

Saved-meal trigger

The standard flow updates memory after a meal is saved, not when an analysis is merely started. Siri can save and update it in the background.

Ingredient-level entries

Each ingredient that the meal analysis recognizes and normalizes can have its own remembered portion.

A normal single-meal save replaces an existing gram value; a manual edit can also become the current hint.

A clear update rule

Normal single-meal saves replace—without averaging

For one meal at a time, Food Memory uses a deliberately simple rule: the new portion replaces the value stored before it. A multi-meal paste can combine duplicate normalized ingredients, so inspect the resulting entry.

No running average

Food Memory does not combine past portions into an average serving size.

A portion is not made more important because you logged it more often than another portion.

The feature does not infer a trend from older servings; it retains one current value for each stored ingredient.

A future photo, text, or voice analysis may use a remembered portion when it recognizes the ingredient but the current input does not make the amount clear.

A meal photo can leave serving size uncertain, so the current stored gram value may be supplied as a hint.

A description that names an ingredient without a clear amount may use the remembered portion as context.

A spoken meal with an ambiguous amount may also use the current stored gram hint for that ingredient.

Using a previous portion does not prove that the serving in front of you is the same size today.

Review, edit, remove, or pause remembered portions

Food Memory is inspectable. You can view account entries, edit their normalized name or grams, delete one entry, or clear all entries. A device-local toggle controls future use and updates from that device.

How to use it

A simple three-step flow

  1. Step 1

    Save a reviewed meal

    In the standard app flow, check foods and portions before saving. Siri logs should be reviewed afterward because they can save in the background.

  2. Step 2

    Keep one current value

    A normal single-meal save replaces an existing value without averaging; inspect memory after pasting several meals together.

  3. Step 3

    Use and verify the context

    A later ambiguous photo, text, or voice analysis may use that value; review the resulting estimate and correct it when needed.

Important limitations

  • In the normal single-meal flow, Food Memory replaces the current grams for a recognized, normalized ingredient. It does not average servings, weight them by frequency, or learn a portion trend.
  • An ingredient must be recognized and normalized for Food Memory to store or match it. The feature does not guarantee that every food in a meal will be recognized.
  • A previous portion is only personal context. It does not establish that today's serving has the same size, ingredients, or preparation.
  • Pasting or inserting several meals together can sum duplicate normalized ingredients. Siri can save and update memory without the standard pre-save review screen.
  • The store is capped at 200 recently updated account entries. Turning Food Memory off stops use and updates from that device but does not clear account entries or change another device's local toggle.
  • Photo, text, and voice meal analyses remain estimates even when Food Memory is used. Review and correct results before relying on them.

What exactly does Food Memory save?

Does Food Memory average my usual serving size?

No. It does not average portions or weight them by frequency. In the normal single-meal flow, newly saved grams replace the prior value. A manual edit can set the current hint, and a multi-meal paste can sum duplicate normalized ingredients.

When can Food Memory affect a meal analysis?

A later photo, text, or voice analysis may use the saved portion when the ingredient is recognized but the current amount is ambiguous.

Does Food Memory make calorie estimates exact?

No. A remembered portion is a contextual hint, not a measurement. The current serving, hidden ingredients, and preparation can still make the estimate different from what you ate.

Can I see what Food Memory remembers?

Yes. You can view up to 200 recently updated entries and see the normalized ingredient name and current grams stored for each one.

Can I edit, delete, or turn off Food Memory?

Yes. You can edit an account entry's name or grams, delete one entry, or clear the full list. The device-local toggle stops use and updates from that device without deleting account entries or changing another device's setting.
